Session 3 - April 27 - JIT and Misconceptions

Presenter: Judith Farber, CPIA, IACUC Protocol Manager, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Summary - Judith discusses what JIT is, common misconceptions and some strategies for ensuring an efficient process takes place when JIT is present. Further, the community shares insights about JIT with a nice dialogue towards the end as a result of Q and A.


 

Session 4 - May 25 - Burden Oscillation - Employee Transition

Presenter: Eugene Matullo, MS, Founder EM3, ARC SS

Summary - Eugene discusses the concept of burden oscillation and focuses on employee transition. Further, Eugene discusses the importance of retention when possible and what can happen to the research system when people leave the organization/ team.


 

Session 5 - June 29, 2023 - Field Studies

Presenter - Madeline Budda, DVM, MS, DACLAM, Director, Office of Animal Welfare Assurance, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Summary - Dr. Budda discusses IACUC considerations with respect to Field Studies followed by a great Q and A session.


 

Session 6 - August 31, 2023 - When Your Home Institution Takes on External Research Contracts

Presenters - Kelly Schill and Jenny Nemke

Summary - Kelly and Jenny discuss the process for taking on external research contracts at your home institution. They dive into regulatory considerations, pros and cons, and pricing structure.


Session 7 - September 28, 2023 - Data Driven Approaches to PAM

Presenters - Dr. Asmita Kumar and Dr. Isabela Freedman

Summary - Asmita and Isabela discuss PAM and share a data driven philosophy to running an effective PAM program. This session is 1.5 hours with the first hour being the presentation and the final 30 minutes consisting of Q and A.

Session 9 - December 13, 2023 - The Elephants

Presenter - Eugene Matullo, MS, Founder EM3, ARC SS

Summary - This session was about the exploration of “elephants” that may exist within animal research programs. Eugene compiled survey responses from the community and built the talk around trends that showed up. Some of the topics include COI (organizational), Stakeholder Tensions (Us Vs Them), Low Pay, Limited Opportunities for Advancement, High Turnover and Being Understaffed.
